Expert Ring Resizing: Tailoring Silver, Gold and Platinum Rings to Perfection

Welcome to our jewelry repair blog! Today, we’re diving into one of the most sought-after services we offer—resizing rings. At our Seattle studio, we take pride in our craftsmanship and the personal touch we bring to every resizing job. Whether you’ve inherited a cherished family heirloom that needs a better fit or simply need to adjust a recently purchased ring, we’re here to ensure it fits perfectly and comfortably.

Why Resizing Matters

A well-fitting ring is more than just a matter of comfort—it’s about making sure your treasured piece is worn and enjoyed as it was meant to be. A ring that’s too tight can cause discomfort or even damage to the band or your finger, while a ring that’s too loose risks slipping off and getting lost. By resizing your ring to the perfect fit, we help you preserve its beauty and keep it a part of your life.

Our Resizing Process: Handcrafted Precision

At our Seattle studio, we believe in the artistry of handcrafting. While modern technology has its place, nothing beats the personal touch and precision of traditional methods. Here’s a glimpse into how we resize silver, gold, and platinum rings with meticulous care:

  1. Consultation and Assessment: The first step is understanding your needs. We’ll discuss your preferences and assess the ring to determine the best approach for resizing. Whether you need to make the ring larger or smaller, we’ll carefully evaluate the structure and design to ensure the resizing process won’t affect the ring’s integrity or aesthetics. Some rings may not be able to be resized easily, or have limits on how many sized they can be altered. We’ll go over your options and give you a quote.

  2. Resizing the Ring: Depending on the direction of resizing, we either add or remove a section of the band. For sizing rings down, we’ll carefully calculate and measure the amount of material that needs to be removed. For sizing up rings, we’ll need to cut and insert additional metal. We try to cut the ring in a way that won’t be noticable once the resize is finished. Our goal is to achieve a seamless finish that blends perfectly with the existing band.

  3. Soldering and Finishing: Once the ring is cut, we either compress it smaller, or stretch it out and insert the additional piece. We use a combination or laser welding and soldering to join the band back together. After soldering, we meticulously file and polish the ring to restore its original shape and shine. We can maintain a slightly worn finish if you like its well-loved look, or we can polish it up to a mirror finish polish.

  4. Quality Check: Before returning the ring to you, we conduct a thorough quality check. This ensures that the resizing has been done correctly and that the ring meets our high standards of craftsmanship. We’ll also note any other issues we see like cracked stones, or prongs that need to be re-tipped. When you come pick it up we make sure the fit is perfect and comfortable.
